A super hard alloy contains 5-10wt% of cobalt and/or nickel, 0-10wt% of a group 4, 5 or 6 carbide (excluding tungsten carbide), nitride and carbonitride and the balance of tungsten carbide. The hard phases are mainly composed of tungsten carbide particles and ?-particles of carbides, nitrides or carbonitrides bonded together by bonding phases mainly composed of cobalt and/or nickel.
