Hot isostatic pressing is used to form physical vapour deposition targets which can contain iridium, cobalt, ruthenium, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, aluminum or tantalum; and/or aluminides, silicides, carbides and chalcogenides. ELECTROLESS PLATING OF METAL CAPS FOR CHALCOGENIDE-BASED MEMORY DEVICES
A metal cap over a conductive interconnect in a chalcogenide-based memory device is formed by forming a layer of conductor on a substrate, followed by an insulating layer containing an opening, depositing a second conductive material over the insulator and within the opening, removing portions of the second conductive material to form a conductive area within the opening, recessing the conductive area within the opening to a level below an upper surface of the insulating layer, forming a cap of a third conductive material of, silver, gold, copper, nickel, palladium over the recessed conductive area, platinum, and alloys thereof, depositing a stack of a chalcogenide based memory cell material over the cap, and depositing a conductor over the stack.

An electrocatalytic coating on an electrode is a mixed metal oxide, preferably platinum group with or without valve metal oxides, and containing a transition metal component such as palladium, rhodium or cobalt. The coating can be used especially as an anode component of an electrolysis cell for the electrolysis of a halogen-containing solution.

A cell for the electrowinning of aluminium, contains an electrochemically active anode surface on which, during electrolysis, oxygen is anodically evolved, and which is suspended in the electrolyte substantially parallel to a facing cathode. The outer layer of the anode contains mainly cobalt oxide CoO to enhance the stability of the anode.
