MARKING METHOD AND FORMULATION
A bank note marking agent consists of a water soluble dye, which can be rendered water insoluble when brought into contact with water or an organic solvent. Alternatively or in addition, the bank note marking agent may be a substance, such as cobalt nitrate, that is adapted to produce a colour when exposed to an oxidizing agent, such as a bleaching agent.

GRANULAR BLACK PIGMENT CONTAINING COBALT
A granular black pigment having a high electrical resistance, contains cobalt present as an oxide where, the divalent cobalt accounts for 40-70% of the total cobalt content. Preferably that the total cobalt content in a whole particle is 60-80wt%, the divalent cobalt content is 20-50wt% and the primary particle diameter is 0.02-0.6 ?m.
